2017-18 Final Meeting of GS-21

|

The final meeting of GS-21 took place on May 2 at Marlboro High School featuring Ken Kay of EdLeader21 as the keynote. Forty school leaders from 15 districts, along with representatives from DESE, Primary Source, and Education First (EF) all participated in developing the Portrait of a Graduate. Ken discussed the EdLeader21 rubrics and asked us to think about the importance of the 4Cs- communication, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Ken was supported by Anna Nolin (Natick), Joan Dabrowski (Wellesley), and Joe Sawyer (Shrewsbury) whose districts have already developed their own Profile of a Graduate (check out their websites). Ken also posited that colleges and universities are overemphasizing content knowledge in their programs, even as the 4Cs are now preeminent in the work environment. The Portrait is not an end, however, but rather the beginning of
the process to align school programs and activities to reach the desired competencies in students. It was a rich discussion and a fitting conclusion to the year. Special thanks go to EF for making it possible for Ken Kay to be with us.
