Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Superintendent, leads the education division in the planning, development, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of instructional programs for all students; serves as a contributing member of Superintendent’s Central Office and Leadership teams; provides decisive, dynamic leadership and supervision of curriculum and instruction, state and federal categorical programs, educator evaluation, program evaluation, and staff development; fosters continuous school improvement in academic content standards and assessment, teaching and learning, professional development, parent engagement, and governance and funding; ensures compliance with policies, practices and procedures; supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (including but are not limited to):

1.      Provides leadership and oversight in the development of effective educational programs by coordinating the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate curricular programs as initiated by staff, administration, citizens/parents, school committee or mandated by the state or Federal government and in addition provides formative and summative data useful in evaluating and improving programs

2.      Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and instruction, and Evaluation, furnishes leadership to their appropriateness for inclusion in the district.

3.      Demonstrated knowledge and skills of facilitative leadership grounded in respect for all and the value of differing perspectives.

4.      Supports the implementation of the district’s strategic plan, mission, vision, values and goals.

5.      Articulates to professional staff, parents, and the community at large the goals and objectives of the schools.

6.      In conjunction with the Director of Student Services, implements an effective Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model to ensure equity in the instructional program for all students.

7.      Oversees the use of data to assess the effectiveness of instruction and to review recommendations and concerns of building principals, district leadership and other relevant interest groups.

8.      Coordinates long-range curricular and budgetary planning for the elementary and secondary schools and works collaboratively with the Superintendent regarding budget recommendations to the School Committee.

9.      Coordinates continuous study of the development and needs of the school system and reports findings to the Superintendent.

10.  Provides leadership in the review and evaluation of instructional methods and programs, and recommends such policy changes and improvements as needed.

11.  Leads and facilitates the District’s Professional Learning Council. Coordinates the development and scheduling of all professional learning including leading, facilitating and/or supporting District and school based meetings and professional learning.

12.  Approve requests for attendance at professional meetings and conferences for teachers, administrative assistants, and educational support personnel.

13.  Approve requests for attendance at and reimbursement to courses for college/university credit to be paid for teachers, administrative assistants and educational support personnel per the appropriate contract language.

14.  Oversees the Data Information Systems Manager who serves as the District point of contact for data related issues and questions, such as ensuring integrity of data, verifying information regarding data quality, completeness of data, adherence to set data schemas; identifying and correcting data integrity issues that do not comply with schemas or school regulations; responds to data requests from administrators and school district staff.

15.  Maintains and reviews student achievement and organizational effectiveness data and functions as the key analyst, coordinator and report writer of this data that monitors and informs strategic planning.

16.  Designs and conducts presentations of data and associated data analysis to school leaders, teachers, and school staff; trains school leaders and teachers in data analysis procedures; meets with teachers individually or in grade level teams to help interpret data.

17.  Conducts analysis of state and district mandated testing and prepares reports regarding student test performance and recommendations for improvement. Consistently re-evaluates data and related processes to ensure compliance with state and K12 guidelines, reflecting and/or preparing for any new changes in data direction.

18.  Participates in the preparation of budgets in the area of teaching and learning including curricula materials, professional learning, etc.

19.  Write grant proposals and supervise the implementation of such grants which support system-wide needs and goals within assigned areas of responsibility. Also, assist, encourage, and promote such grant writing by all staff in appropriate areas.

20.  Provide oversight to ensure compliance with the state’s accountability system and administrative oversight for various state and federal grants related to instruction to include but not limited to Title I, Title IIA, etc.

21.  Responsible for mentoring and induction programming as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

22.  Oversees the nursing department, including hiring of nurses and substitute nurses.

23.  Provides support and guidance to building school leadership in areas of teaching, learning and leading.

24.  Supports building Principals in the development and implementation of annual School Improvement Plans.

25.  Acts as the point of contact or point of contact for appeals for Title IV, VI, and IX investigations.

26.  Works with District leadership in the development of the District calendar.

27.  Attends Cohasset School Committee meetings and other appropriate committee meetings and prepares such reports as may be requested by the Superintendent.

28.  Serves in the absence of the Superintendent, when designated by the Superintendent, as the chief administrative officer of the schools.

29.  Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may from time to time be assigned by the Superintendent.

Salary: $168,000 to $180,000 Per Year

Job Requirements

1.      Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in educational administration, a background in curriculum/instruction and supervision. Graduate work beyond the Master’s degree preferred.

2.      A valid Massachusetts Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent license or proof of eligibility.

3.      A combination of at least ten (10) years of successful experience in teaching and/or school leadership.

4.      Ability to work as a member of a highly functioning team.

5.      Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

6.      Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities.

7.      Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills.

8.      Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software.

9.      Employment-based on successful completion of CORI and fingerprinting background.

10.  Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable.
