Job Description

Purpose:
One of the M.A.S.S. strategic plan initiatives states: “Build superintendent centered wrap-around support systems and programs that include relationships and collaboration with all allies and partners so superintendents are able to confront their challenges and lead their school districts.”

In response to this initiative, M.A.S.S. is initiating the “M.A.S.S. Superintendent Support Network” (MSSN) pilot program. MSSN is designed to provide both small group support (Tier II) for the 2025-2026 year along with individual support (Tier III), as needed. This Small Group Support Network is a safe space for a small group of superintendent colleagues, preferably supported by peer sitting superintendents, to engage in open dialogue and exchange of ideas, concerns, and strategic thinking.

There will be as many as 4 regional cohorts of 8 active superintendents each who meet monthly with 2 trained “Superintendent Facilitators.” The regions will include the following:

  • Region I – Berkshire/Connecticut Valley
  • Region II – North Shore/Merrimack Valley
  • Region III – Tri-County/Worcester
  • Region IV – South Shore/Old Colony

The “Superintendent Facilitators” will be current practicing superintendents who will provide the facilitation for those small group cohorts.

M.A.S.S. is welcoming qualified and interested superintendents who wish to be considered for the
“Superintendent Facilitator” position to apply considering the following:

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience as an active superintendent of schools preferred.
  • Demonstrated service to colleagues and the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents
  • Completed participation in Leading Now cohort or demonstrated experience as a mentor to
    superintendents through a recognized program(e.g. BC LLP Mentors; M.A.S.S. Assistant Superintendent Mentors)

Requirements:

  • Attend nine (9) 2-hour monthly training sessions with “lead facilitators” to:
    • Support “superintendent facilitators” development as a mentor and skilled facilitator who can
      make effective use of a consulting protocol
    • Participate effectively in a process that ensures superintendents access individualized support as needed
    • Develop skills to lead cohort superintendent consultancy sessions
    • Reflect thoughtfully and act on feedback offered by colleagues and lead facilitators
  • Beginning in September 2025, facilitate a cohort of up to 8 superintendents for ten (10) 2-hour virtual monthly sessions that makes us of a case consultancy process
  • Superintendent facilitators may or may not be chosen from their home district’s roundtable

Application Process

  • Send resumes and cover letter that defines qualifications to M.A.S.S. Executive Director by Tuesday,
    February 11, 2025 to Erica Hedrick at ehedrick@massupt.org.
  • Submit, one page or less, a statement describing your interest and why you should be selected as a
    “Superintendent Facilitator.”
  • A screening team will select applicants for an interview.
  • An in-person interview will include interacting with a performance task that simulates the superintendent facilitator role.

Superintendent facilitators are eligible for a modest bi-annual stipend
