The Haverhill Public School District a dynamic and accomplished instructional and organizational leader for the position of principal. Haverhill is a growing, gateway city with approximately 8000 students in a district dedicated to supporting innovation and excellence among staff and students.

The successful candidate will be a motivated, persistent and creative educator who is able to align the school’s resources, systems and people around a rigorous instructional program. This principal will provide a clear vision for learning for all students; ensure a safe, secure and orderly learning environment; and, cultivate strong relationships with and act in service to diverse stakeholders including families and communities. The promotion of high quality instructional practices, passionate enjoyment of working with young people and the belief that all students can achieve at the highest levels are pivotal expectations of the position.

Statement of Duties:

·       Assumes full administrative responsibilities for the operation, maintenance, and climate of the school.

·       Effectively prepares and administers the school budget.

·       Provides leadership in Education Reform initiatives and for the school-based council.

·       Provides strong and visible leadership for curriculum, instruction, and assessment of student achievement. This is a most critical attribute. Instructional leadership is the priority.

·       Schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs.

·       Collects and analyzes data on student performance.

·       Works with school based management team to develop and implement a vision for the school.

·       Plans, provides and displays annual evidence of participation in professional development.

·       Provides for the administration and supervision of all curricular and extra-curricular programs in the school.

·       Works with building administrators to affect an optimum-learning climate for all students that promote positive student interactions, learning, and quality curricula.

·       Evaluates staff under the new Massachusetts Model System for Educator Evaluation.

·       Monitors the implementation of effective discipline and attendance practices of both students and staff.

·       Initiates, designs, and implements programs to meet the specific needs of the school.

·       Maintains active relationships with students, staff, and parents.

·       Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes.

·       Provides recommendations for the selection, retention, and promotion of personnel assigned to the school.

·       Administers all school-site related aspects of negotiated employee contracts.

·       Displays annual evidence of participation in professional development.

·       Maintains a clean, safe physical plant and environment.

·       Plans and supervises an emergency evacuation and preparedness program.

·       Completes all mandated state and federal reports.

·       Ensures effective public relations.

·       Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of state and federal grants and reports.

·       Contributes to the district beyond usual job-related assignments.

·       Establishes effective communications between the school and central office administration, parents and community.

·       Engages family and community within the school culture.

·       Assumes responsibility for any other duties as indicated by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the School Committee.

Qualifications:

·       Licensed as a Principal/Assistant Principal from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (9-12).

·       Minimum of a Master’s Degree with graduate work in educational leadership to include, curriculum development, supervision, budget, evaluation and assessment.

·       Can demonstrate a minimum of eight (8) years successful experience as a teacher at the high school level.

·       Demonstrated experience as an administrator preferred.

·       Bi-lingual Preferred

·       Working knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and any State level assessment systems.

·       Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
