Position Summary:

The role of the Reading Specialist is to provide focused, specialized instruction, support and leadership in order to produce high quality outcomes in the area of Reading and Literacy for students. The Reading Specialist assists with establishing effective reading instruction across the Collaborative. Additionally, the Reading Specialist will collaborate with classroom teachers to provide interventions and additional classroom support. The Reading Specialist will support the development of a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about books, and a genuine, institutional love for reading


• Collaborate with classroom teachers and Curriculum and Professional Learning Specialist to guide implementation of best practices for instruction of literacy skills. Review student assessment data to evaluate the effectiveness of the literacy program.
• Provide ongoing coaching and support to all staff in strategies to improve instruction that will support literacy growth across the curriculum.
• Provide screening, assessment and direct instruction to students in the area of literacy. Make recommendations on appropriate reading and writing intervention and support services for students.
• Meet regularly with the classroom teachers and paraprofessionals to plan literacy instruction that correlates with the individual student’s needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.
• Examine and evaluate data to measure the success of literacy programs and instruction and make recommendations for improvement.

Compensation: Negotiable regionally competitive salary with benefits package.
