Assistant Superintendent for Student Services

Position Purpose:

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent for Student Services leads, administers, and supervises a comprehensive system of support for students with and without disabilities

Responsibilities Include:

●         Provides appropriate services for all special education students in accordance with Individualized Educational Programs (IEP)

●         Collaborates with administrators to develop and implement curriculum and high leverage instructional practices for all identified students with disabilities

●         Collaborates with administrators to ensure equitable access to academic, athletic, and co-curricular programs for students with disabilities

●         Ensures that the district follows regulations for the development and implementation of 504 plans

●         Assumes responsibility for Child Find activities

●         Oversight of DESE Problem Resolution System (PRS) complaints

●         Oversees the implementation and coordination of Nursing and Counseling services

●         Supports principals in their coordination of Multi-tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

●         Represents Mansfield Public Schools with the Bureau of Special Education Appeals

●         Organizes and meets regularly with the Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC)

●         Prepares and administers federal and state grant proposals and proportionate share under the Individuals with Disability Act (IDEA)

●         Reviews all cases scheduled for mediation or hearing and serves as the liaison between the school district and the district’s legal firm

●         Coordinates and monitors the special education student transportation program

●         Prepares the annual budget for special education, counseling, and nursing services and ensures the participation of staff in the budget process

●         Serves as a member of the Operating Committee of Bi-County Collaborative (BICO)

●         Directs the implementation of Medicaid Claiming Reimbursement

●         Serves as the Point of Contact for McKinney-Vento, Foster Care, and Military-Connected Families

Qualifications include:

·         Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study or Master’s Degree in Special Education or a related field

·         Current Massachusetts Certification as a Superintendent and Administrator of Special Education (All Levels)

·         Minimum of (5) years of professional experience in special education or a related field and a minimum of (3) years’ experience in educational administration and/or supervision

·         Such alternatives to the above-defined qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools would deem to be appropriate and acceptable
