Job Description
1.Ensures that the Core Values adopted by the Milton School Committee serve as the guiding principles for all educational programs, activities and endeavors within the school.
2.Enforces all policies set forth by the Superintendent of Schools and the School Committee.
3.Is responsible for the administration of all phases of the school’s academic programs.
4.Works closely with District Administration to develop appropriate educational programs for students in general and special education.
5.Provides for the health, safety, security, and welfare of all students.
6.Establishes standards and expectations for proper student conduct and maintains high expectations for all students to engage in continuous learning and development; follows Student Discipline Laws and Regulations.
7.Maintains an effective, culturally diverse, and culturally proficient learning environment within the school community.
8. Fosters collegiality and team building among staff members.
9. Is responsible for the preparation, in cooperation with directors, department heads or coordinators of annual budgets for the school; ensures accurate accounting of funds received and expended as part of the school’s program.
10.Supervises and evaluates all staff assigned to the school consistent with the effective implementation of the Massachusetts Model System for Educator Evaluation.
11.Participates in the hiring of new teacher and support personnel; determines the teaching assignment of all staff members within the school, including approval of student teacher assignments.
12.Leads the analysis of assessment data; uses data to make informed decisions.
13.Maintains clear and open communications within the school community; keeps the school population informed of policy changes, new programs, etc.; ensures that teachers and staff communicate effectively to parents about student progress.
14.Provides ongoing opportunities for the professional growth and development of staff to improve teaching and learning.
15.Is responsible for submitting monthly and annual reports to the Superintendent of Schools and for
16.Attends School Committee meetings upon the request of the Superintendent of Schools when mattersof direct concern to a principal or principals are to be discussed.
17.Is responsible for the overall supervision and scheduling of programs within the school.
18.Is up-to-date on changes and developments in the profession that include curriculum, instructional practices, evaluation, and school management.
19.Performs any other duties assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Qualifications:
1.Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution.
2.Massachusetts licensure as an elementary school principal.
3.At least five years of successful teaching experience; prior experience as a principal or administrator preferred.
4.Knowledge and skills to meet Professional Standards for Administrative Leadership in Instructional Leadership, Management and Operations, Family and Community Engagement, and Professional Culture:
a.Promotes the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff by cultivating a shared vision that makes effective teaching and learning the central focus of schooling.
b.Promotes the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff by ensuring a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment, using resources to implement appropriate curriculum, staffing and scheduling.
c.Promotes the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff through effective partnerships with families, community organizations, and other stakeholders that support the mission of the school and district.
d.Promotes success for all students by nurturing and sustaining a school culture of reflective practice, high expectations, and continuous learning for staff.
