Job Description: Assistant Superintendent of Schools
Bargaining Unit: None FLSA Classification: Exempt
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Assistant Superintendent of Schools assists the Superintendent of Schools in the duties of providing leadership in developing, achieving, and maintaining the best possible educational programs and services.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
To work in partnership with the Superintendent, Director of Business, Director of Technology, and the Director and Assistant Director of Student Support Services to assist in the areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, technology, business and finance, civil rights, and special education.
To work with the Superintendent to assure implementation of school system initiatives to support teaching and learning, on a district and individual school basis.
To help all members of the school community articulate a common vision of instructional practices and student learning.
To assist in the writing and management of federal, state, and local grants.
To manage and supervise all home-schooling models.
To work closely with the professional development committee in developing and implementing an annual professional development plan.
To assist with human resources decisions and help the professional staff stay informed about licensure and re-licensure regulations.
To assist the Superintendent in the administration of policy for the Northborough, Southborough, and Northborough-Southborough Regional School Districts.
To perform all other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
Training and Experience:
Must possess a Master’s degree in educational leadership or a related discipline. Doctorate preferred.
Must possess an active DESE license as a Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent as well as the SEI Administrator endorsement.
Must have a minimum of ten years of experience in a public school district, including three years administrative and three years teaching experience.
Must have effective interpersonal and leadership skills; experience facilitating group decision-making and communication among divergent groups.
Must have excellent speaking, writing, and technology skills
Knowledge of state and federal regulations.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.
Ability to work with staff and public.
Ability to solve challenging situations.
Ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently.
Minimal physical effort generally required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports to the Superintendent of Schools or designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
EVALUATION: The Assistant Superintendent is evaluated by the Superintendent of Schools.
