Position: Watertown Middle School Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities – ISP
Position Type: Full time
Department: Special Education

Affiliation: WEA Unit A
Salary range: As determined by Unit A CBA Salary Schedule


Watertown Middle School seeks an outstanding Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities to instruct students with emotional disabilities in a substantially separate classroom setting, with opportunities to include students in general education classrooms as appropriate. Watertown Middle School Integrated Support Program (ISP) is a specialized special education program that services students with social/emotional disabilities.

Qualified candidates will present evidence of expertise and experience in the following areas:

  • Common Core and MA state curriculum frameworks
  • Knowledge of special education process and procedures, pre-referral mandates, and eligibility criteria
  • Evaluation and assessment procedures and report writing
  • Development of Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and completion of IEP Progress Reports
  • Meaningful, inclusive teaching practices for students with special needs, including Universal Design for Learning and co-teaching strategies
  • Knowledge of evidence-based methodologies for instruction for students with emotional/behavioral disabilities
  • Effective communication and collaborative relationship building with colleagues and parents
  • Organized, flexible, creative, and self-reflective educator with a growth mindset regarding their students’ abilities and their own professional practice
  • Passionate about providing a Free and Appropriate Public Education in the Least Restrictive setting for all children, regardless of disability


  • Monitor and evaluate students’ academic, social and behavioral progress and record student outcomes
  • Design and carry out developmentally appropriate motivating curriculum/programming as required by IEP goals/MA curriculum frameworks
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs
  • Create an environment that is positive for student learning and involvement
  • Maintain appropriate standards of behavior, mutual respect, and safety
  • Collect, analyze and maintain academic and behavioral data on all students
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain effective communication with administration, parents, counselors, and related service providers


  • Valid Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities required
  • Experience working with students with social/emotional disabilities
  • Skilled in behavior management and de-escalation strategies
  • Citizenship, residency, or work VISA in the United States required


  • At least 3 years of related experience preferred
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Dual licensure in a core content area, math/science preferred
