Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services
provides vision and leadership for the coordination of resources to support and enhance student
learning, including programs, policies, operations, and procedures related to school district
support services, outside organizations, families, and state and federal agencies. Provides
leadership and supervision of programs and personnel assigned to meet the special and
alternative needs of students, including special education, social-emotional learning, and
guidance services. Works collaboratively with families, community agencies, and businesses to
form viable partnerships for the support and development of students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advises the Superintendent in all matters related to the areas of responsibility. Interpret,
maintain, and monitor compliance with School Committee policies and administrative
regulations pertaining to areas of responsibility. - Coordinate with the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning, and Student Success
to provide oversight, vision, and strategic implementation of actions to improve student
achievement for the effective operations of the District. - Plans, directs, and reviews the activities and operations related to student support
services, including Special Education, Guidance and Counseling, School Health Services,
Hospital/Homebound Services, School Psychology, School Social Work, Dropout
Prevention, Social, Emotional and Mental Health Programming, and/or other systems of
support. - Administers and monitors Student Services programs and activities to ensure compliance
with established curriculum standards and requirements. - Address and respond to all complaints from families related to student services.
- Implement the Superintendent’s Action Plan and School Committee Goals to improve
student outcomes, instructional practices, school operations and management, and
leadership development. - Prepare timely and concise reports to the Superintendent and the School Committee
including Comprehensive and financial data for all aspects of the department. - Develop and monitor alternative services to meet the needs of all students.
- Guide the district’s effort in advancing racial, gender identity, and sexuality equity in
order to ensure all students are welcomed in a safe environment. - Work to employ educators with personal or professional development experience/training
in identifying, learning, facilitating, and/or implementing best practices related to diversity,
equity, and inclusion. - Works to employ multilingual and diverse educators with experience teaching in diverse
and underserved communities. - Responsible for developing, organizing, and implementing all programs related to student
services, alternative programs, discipline, child welfare and attendance, parent
programs, mental, behavioral, social-emotional and health programs, and centralized
enrollment programs. - Monitor and develop programs to ensure a safe environment for all students.
- Support the District’s implementation of Multi-Tiered Student Support System and
coordinate with district Principals and the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning,
and Student Success. - Maintain and serve as a liaison between the district and the various community Police
Departments, the Probation Department, County Health Services, and other community agencies. - Communicate and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders by working on
the development of partnerships with educational and community organizations. - Collaborate with outside agencies to maximize resources in the community and create
more options through a variety of services to address the needs of our students. - Develop and monitor accountability of department progress to meet district goals.
Serve as custodian of records. - Provides support to foster a culture that motivates teachers and administrators to
perform at the level of excellence necessary to improve student achievement and narrow
the achievement gap between racial, ethnic, and economic groups. - Develop and supervise the implementation of procedures for the custodianship of student
records. - Work with Human Resources to make recommendations for the selection, assignment,
evaluation, and transfers of personnel.Research, prepare agenda items, and make presentations to the School Committee as assigned. - Expand and implement programs related to mental and behavioral health services.
- Implement climate safety programs to increase student safety.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master’s Degree or higher in Education Administration.
- Minimum of 5 years experience as an Administrator.
- Licensure as Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent in Massachusetts
- Experience working in a K-12 environment as a school Principal is preferred.

- Ability to establish broad objectives relative to the position duties or departmental
responsibilities and utilize sound independent judgment. - Supervise the performance of assigned personnel.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

- Prepare comprehensive narrative and statistical reports.

- Expand and develop services to address student needs.
