ABOUT THE DISTRICT

Ashburnham Westminster Regional School District serves students from Westminster (population 7,000) and Ashburnham (population 6,000). Located in North Central Massachusetts, both towns provide rural surroundings with the natural beauty of lakes, forests, and mountains allowing ample opportunities for both summer and winter recreation. Being only 50 miles from Boston and 40 miles from Worcester, residents can also avail themselves of large concert, theater and cultural venues when the appeal of city life calls.

The district includes five schools. Elementary students attend Meetinghouse School (K-2) and Westminster Elementary School (3-5), both in Westminster, and J.R. Briggs Elementary School in Ashburnham. Students from both towns attend Overlook Middle School and Oakmont Regional High School, which are located on the town line of Ashburnham and Westminster. All schools offer a broad curriculum which is regularly assessed and changed to meet the evolving needs of modern-day students. At all levels, they are given learning opportunities in science, mathematics, technology, engineering (STEM) as well as in art, music, language, literature, and social studies. The Special Education Department works with the District to ensure that children with learning differences can be successful.
