Job Description
Watertown Pubic Schools is seeking a Full Year Long-Term Substitute School Nurse to work in the Hosmer Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year.

Reports to: School Principal and Director of Student Services

The school nurse will provide a broad range of health services including acute, episodic and emergency care. School nurses manage the care of students with special health care needs at school. The school nurse is responsible for developing, implementing and managing a school health program for a school population as defined by the school district.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assesses the current health needs of the student population
  • Maintains individual health records on each student to accommodate individual needs of students; maintain student athlete medical clearance
  • Administer required daily medications and over-the-counter medications per medication distribution protocols
  • Provides required medical treatments to students with specialized health care needs
  • Develops Individualized Health Care Plans for students with specialized health care needs
  • Ensures students comply with mandated school health requirements
  • Provides daily episodic care to students and staff
  • Provides emergency care to students and staff
  • Promotes and assists in the control of communicable diseases within the school
  • Conducts required health screenings for students (vision, hearing, postural, heights and weights)
  • Refers students for follow up medical evaluations
  • Collaborates with parents, physicians and identified community agencies to coordinate student’s health care within the school
  • Provides health education to students and staff around specified health issues and topics
  • Where applicable, participate in the IEP plan development
  • Provide consultation in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school district
  • Provide consultation to the District Wellness Committee

Job Requirements

  • Registered Nurse, Bachelor Degree a must
  • Current licensure to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
  • Two years of prior nursing experience in school, pediatric preferred
  • CPR/AED certified
  • Knowledgeable of SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment) drug screening for alcohol and other drugs
  • Knowledgeable of care for students in school with Diabetes
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
